Barcode and printer
Who can use this: Cashiers use scanners/printers. Managers set location receipt options. Where to find it: POS for scanning. Settings > Locations for receipt ticks. Products > Barcode Generator / Label Printing for labels.
What is this?
How BillShop works with common shop hardware. BillShop uses the browser — the scanner types into the focused box, and printing uses the OS printer.
Barcode scanner
Before you start
Products need a SKU / barcode that matches the label. Test on POS with one known item.
Steps
- Open POS.
- Click Search product / SKU... so the cursor is in the search box.
- Scan the barcode.
- The product should enter the bill.
- If nothing happens, click the search box again and rescan.
Tips
- Most USB scanners work like a keyboard.
- If scan fills the wrong field, click product search first.
- Print labels from Products > Label Printing or Barcode Generator.
Receipt / thermal printer
Before you start
Install the printer on Windows (or the shop PC OS). Know which Location the POS uses.
Steps
- Open Settings > Locations.
- Edit the location.
- Tick the receipt lines you want (shop name, phone, address, and other options on the form).
- Save.
- Make a test sale on POS and print.
- In the browser print dialog, choose the thermal printer and correct paper size.
Tips
- Wrong shop name on paper → you edited a different location than POS is using.
- Reprint anytime from Sales > All Sales > Print Invoice.
Cash drawer
Steps
- Many drawers open from the printer kick code when a receipt prints.
- Open the cash register in BillShop when your shop requires it — see Cash register.
- If the drawer does not open, check printer “open drawer” settings in Windows / printer utility.
Common problems
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| Scanner types numbers but no product | SKU does not match, or search box was not focused. |
| Print preview blank | Check browser blocked pop-ups; try reprint from All Sales. |
| Label size wrong | Change label template in Label Printing. |
